Contemporary Resort Expansion- Pardon their Pixie-Dust 2009-2010
(5/14/08) According to the Orlando Sentinel Disney may have changed their minds about calling the expansion tower at the Contemporary Resort the “Kingdom Tower”. In the latest filing with the county they are now referring to the building as the Bay Lake Tower, or by the longer name… Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The article mentions some possible conflict over the old name sounding like Kingdom Hall, a place where Jehovah’s Witnesses worship, as one possible reason for the name change.
(2/26/08) The DVC expansion wing at the Contemporary Resort now has a name according to the Orlando Sentinel, The Kingdom Tower. While Disney is still not willing to talk about it, they did just win approval from the state to sell time-shares within the building and the documents filed say that the building will top out at 15 stories, connect to the Contemporary Resort via a 5th story bridge and contain a total of 281 units. They don’t expect to finish the $110 million project until the fall of 2009. It also seems clear that the cost of buying into the Kingdom Tower will cost more than any of Disney’s other DVC Resorts.
